JSAS Mission Statement

Journal of the Society for Armenian Studies (JSAS) is the premier academic journal dedicated to Armenian Studies in the Western Hemisphere. The journal publishes peer-reviewed scholarship from all disciplinary and comparative perspectives relating to Armenians and the field of Armenian Studies. Committed to making the field relevant to a broad interdisciplinary audience, it aims to foster new directions in the field, encouraging global, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary submissions that align with cutting-edge scholarly research across periods and research areas. The journal publishes research articles, book reviews, and review essays and encourages reviews of works published in languages other than English. The journal will also feature forums dedicated to critical discussions around select topics in Armenian Studies.

Submission Categories

 JSAS accepts manuscripts in the following categories:

  1. Research Articles: 8,000-10,000 words in length, including endnotes. Submit through Editorial Manager (em), a leading cloud-based manuscript submission and peer review system for scholarly journals, reference works, books, and other publications.
  2. Reviews and Review Articles: Reviews (800-1000 words) and review articles (2,500-3,5000 words) of books, films, exhibition catalogs, and translations are welcome. If you wish to write a book review or review essay, please first contact JSAS Reviews Editor Tsolin Nalbantian at t.nalbantian@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
  3. Forum: A section of an issue may be dedicated to presenting a specific topic from different perspectives by multiple authors to foster open discussion around a significant issue within the field. Proposals are welcome. Please contact JSAS Editors-in-Chief Houri Berberian and Talinn Grigor at jsascoeditors@gmail.com.

Manuscripts must be compiled in the following order:

  • Cover page, including Author name (Corresponding Author designation if more than one author), full contact details, and affiliations
    • Tables (if applicable) should be placed in the WORD (.doc) files in the approximate location where the author would like them to appear. Please note that all tables should be composed in WORD, using WORD’s native table tools, and not set as images or constructed using tabs and spaces.
  • Abstract (150 words)
  • Keywords (5–8)
  • Main text, including endnotes
  • Figure with captions (if applicable)
  • Appendices (if applicable)
