The Society of Armenian Studies expresses its deep sadness concerning the death on March 16, 2023, of Dr. Dennis Richard Papazian, longtime educator, scholar, and leader of Armenian Studies in the United States and beyond. Holding a Ph.D. in Russian history from the University of Michigan, Dr. Papazian taught at the University of Michigan, Dearborn, where he founded and directed the Armenian Research Center.

Among his many achievements, accomplishments, and awards, we note his roles as President of the Society of Armenian Studies (1989-1990; 1997-2000) and as Editor of the Journal of the Society for Armenian Studies from 1995-2001. Dr. Papazian was committed to expanding awareness of Armenian culture, history, and the Church.
